Should we make designer clothes for fat people?

Question by : Should we make designer clothes for fat people?
We’re encouraging them to stay unhealthy if we make the fashion market as broad as it is with sizes ranging up to 5XL in designer wear. Should they just wear plain, one color clothes? It will reduce the obesity epidemic. People with genuine medical conditions never get as huge as most people make them out to be, usually genuinely obese people are only 3XL or smaller.

What do you think?
I know they are people? But we are encouraging them to stay at an unhealthy weight with no incentive of getting healthy.

There are places like Layne Bryant that already sell that kind of stuff.
There’s even a plus sized Hot Topic store, or so I’ve heard.

I think that would be great! I generally wear a size XL, but when it comes to designer clothes they are so tight I can’t even get into them…. Just cause I’m big does that mean I should dress like a bum!!!

  3. [Insert REALLY Cool Name Here!]* says:

Making plain clothes would not reduce the obesity epidemic. If improvements want to be seen, it should be encouraged to obese people to live healthier lifestyles to avoid complications in the future. Telling people they are “too fat” to wear nice clothes would only encourage unhealthy weight loss methods (diet pills, anorexia, bulimia).

Why not? Are the obese not people, who would like to dress smartly? Fat people are not ugly and let us not make them look ugly with plain one colour clothes!

I see your logic, but people who feel bad about themselves are very unlikely to lose weight. People who think “I’m ugly and clothes don’t fit me” will just sink deeper into their eating and weight issues. On the other hand, people who are able to feel confident about themselves, who can put on nice clothes and feel good about who they are and what they do, are more likely to be successful because it’s not “I need to lose weight because I look terrible and don’t fit in” but rather “I love who I am, but I want to lose weight for my health and to make my life easier”.
